Rosemary Craven John Allen, you have revived more memories....I remember the
grapefruit!!! Although I lived further along the beach by Blue Buoy steps, I have
similar memories of long days on the beach and of walking over to your end of the
beach to fish in the rock pools with a bent pin and limpet bait. Did you swim in the
'bathing pool', it looks small now but I used to think it was huge!! I was what my Dad
called 'venturesome', I would play and swim in the sea and my Mum would be on the
cliff top yelling "Rosemary, come back! If you get drowned don't come crying to
me!"
Dear old Joey Allen, I remember him sitting on the seat at the bottom of Salt Cellar
Hill playing his accordion and singing. He was always joined by others who sang
along with him.
Like you, I lived about one minute from the beach; looking back, we had a wonderful
childhood.
