and very expensive houses overlooking the harbour. When we got near the
Idle Rocks Hotel the boat would slow down and when we came alongside
the harbour John Ferris would jump a-board. He would have a length of rope
(a couple of fathoms) a hook spliced into one end which would be put into
an eye built into the harbour wall. John would do this forward and aft on the
boat.

Next thing the first passengers of the day would come aboard. Greeting Uncle
Fred with a ‘morning Fred or morning Captain Ferris. I was so proud standing
next to him. The day would start good and proper now. After leaving the
harbour Uncle Fred would put his ticket machine on as well as a bag to put
the money in from the fares. John would come into the wheel house when
Uncle Fred was out on deck. It was out of this world for me making the
journey back and forth from St Mawes to Falmouth. The stories I was told
by John and Uncle Fred were unforgettable. The ships coming into and
leaving the docks. Tankers and other ships mooring up in Carrick roads.

No photos just memories. After a hug and loving words from Auntie Gladys
and dear Dorothy. I would go down to the ferry with Uncle Fred. Each day
was a venture each day there was something new to see, and a new story
would begin.
I enjoyed traveling from St Mawes to Falmouth on the ferry with Uncle Fred
and Peter.

Was I not the lucky one to have this upbringing???
