Bio

Dr Charles Edward Hagenbach (1901-1993)

At the time of his father's death on 31 Dec 1922, eldest son, Charles Edward Hagenbach was a medical student and went on to qualify as a doctor at St George's, London on the 24th December 1925. The medical register of 1931 shows him in general practice at Barnoldswick. Charles Edward had married young. 

In 1918 he married Dorothy Brown and they had three children: Paul (1931), Helen (1933) and Frieda (1936).  Dorothy died in 1939.

Later that same year, 1939, Charles married his second wife, Barbara May (nee ) CROSBIE, an actress. She was the widow of Walter MELVILLE (real name Walter Melville ROBBINS), an actor, playwright and impresario.

Charles and Barbara had a daughter, Barbara Hagenbach in 1941. 


In 1940 he moved to Combe Down, near Bath and in 1941, he was called up to serve in WW2 as a Captain in the RAMC. Returning after the war, he spent the remainder of his career in Combe Down, retiring in 1958.  

His second wife, Barbara died in the first quarter of 1983

He retired to Cornwall where he married for a third time in 1983, to Norah Hagerty, after Barbara died. 

Charles Edward died in 1993 in Cornwall, age 91.

1961

​​Dr. Charles Hagenbach, who, with his brothers earlier this year bought the Porthleven Harbour and Dock Company, in Helston, Cornwall. 

In addition to the harbour for coastal and fishing vessels, the company, which is managed by the Hagenbach brothers, also owns all the property in the centre of the village.

1962 

Dr Hagenbach’s brother, "Arnold Hagenbach (1904-2005) was a businessman millionaire. In 1962 he bought Burgh Island, off Plymouth.
