Football in Porthleven appears to go back quite a long way as it is

recorded that the first Soccer ball to be kicked was in 1896.

t was picked up at sea by a fisherman called Johnny James and
when brought ashore it was bought for 2/6d by people who clubbed

together. By kicking it around the beach the possibility of some new
entertainment was seen.

From the beach a move was made to the moors and in 1897 a

properly constituted club was formed by the Headmaster of the
Church School at that time, John E Dolman as both the founder

and secretary and sometime player
