SHOPS - Ann's Pasties returns to its Porthleven roots and opens new shop 2017

Ann's Pasties to extend from Lizard and Helston to open shop in Porthleven

A family of pasty makers is returning to where it all began by opening a shop in Porthleven.

Ann's Pasties is to open in Fore Street, where fruit and vegetable shop Land of Fruit and Glory has been trading until recently.

The village is where Hettie Merrick and her daughter Ann Muller set up their first pasty shop, 34 years ago - and the new shop will be just up the road from there.

Fittingly, there is still a family connection, as the shop was formerly a newsagents belonging to Roy Gilbert, Hettie's cousin.

Ann, who lent her name to the business as it is today, developed it further at The Lizard and it also now boasts an outlet at Tresprison Business Park in Helston, where her son Fergus manages the larger orders.

Fergus said of the latest development: "Ever since I started back in the firm I wanted to branch off in Porthleven again. It's my memory of where it all started.

"We are very excited."

The family hopes to open in Porthleven some time in the New Year, to be fully in gear by the time the tourist season begins.

They are working with a local chef to also offer two types of sausage roll, but Fergus said the family's traditional pasty recipe using ingredients sourced from Coverack, Helston, Manaccan and Leedstown would remain untouched.
