MISSIONARY VISITS OLD HOME

After many adventures, The Rev John KITCHEN of Porthleven has arrived home on furlough from China. Mr Kitchen who has spent 25 years in China as a missionary of the United Church of Canada has been around the world three times.

Well-known in the Helston district, he served his apprenticeship with Strile & Chegwidden, printers of Helston. Emigrating to U.S.A he went eventually to Canada where  he studied for the Ministry.

After his ordination he began his ministry career in the province of Saskatchewan and offering himself for foreign service, he was sent to Changtu in China. During his long period in that country he has met with many thrilling adventures, suffered hardships, privations and had miraculous escapes.

Mr Kitchen’s parents (Mr & Mrs WH Kitchen) are still alive at Porthleven,  and after a short stay, he will return back to the mission field for a further term of service. His wife and family are in Canada and his return journey will be made via Canada, where after crossing the Rockies he will sail from Vancouver.
